Once upon a time, near the western edge of Fredericksburg, an adorable cottage was built with the sole purpose of enchanting its guests, casting a spell on them that forever etches in their memory the days they spent at The Storybook and compels them to return time and time again.
Feeling like they are whisked away into their own fairytale, these guests are drawn into the escape and are warmly greeted by the circular gas log fireplace, the snug and inviting reading nook, complete with a bookshelf full of favorites, and the old-world kitchen, where each drawer is different from the next, all of the essentials are on hand, and a live-edge table awaits, eager to entertain their dining desires.
But what of this? What is this magnificent armoire, built in a land beyond from a bygone era? What treasures could it hold? Grasping the door clasps, it opens almost magically, revealing a gateway into a hidden room! A custom wood-brick vanity, clawfoot tub, and rainhead shower are surrounded by aged brick, stone floors, and hand carved columns, with a high vaulted ceiling that elicits a gasp of relief and the release of the tensions of the day.
With all secret spaces uncovered, the pull now is to ascend the beautifully inlayed staircase to uncover what luxuries the loft may hold. The fantasy continues upon the discovery of a bed unlike any ever seen. Framed by circles, it’s so soft, yet firm, reminiscent of a Tolkien tale. The windows adjacent open to allow the breeze to enrich the bedroom and flow over the carved loft railing into the living space below.
Returning to the entry floor, the antique French back doors open to a heart-shaped patio a step above a stone walkway, leading to a propane grill, a cauldron-esque fire pit, and, to top it all off, a large, warm, bubbling hot tub, quietly brewing as it waits for the chance to bestow a few moments of relaxation.
At every turn, another whimsical detail catches the eye, further enriching the stay with wonder. A custom suitcase dresser here, a delightful light fixture there, and even a few woodland creatures gracing the appurtenances. Each adds to the anticipation, bringing to mind the thought, “What other enchantments are yet to be revealed?” Whatever they may be, they all have been gathered in this wondrous, mystical hideaway to be shared with the guest in the hopes that, upon their eventual departure, they will feel as though they’ve been sprinkled with fairy dust and instilled with a magical charm that sweeps them towards their next destination, where, of course, they’ll live happily ever after.
